South African economy

The South African economy is one of a kind on the continent that connected to the world economy. It has a developed world class  financial system , a competitive manufacturing industry , a top notch service industry , a modern agri-processing sector , a functioning legal system ....just to name these few. However competition and penetration other world markets worldwide have been hampered with skills in short supply in the country. The South African government many efforts to deal with above have not produced palpable results in terms increasing the amount of skills for the economy.

What is missing in the South African economy?

Owing to the above , shortages in the South African economy are felt in the:

Financial Sector where the education system is not producing enough accounts , auditors and others financial areas of the economy

Engineering is also another area of the economy where there is lack of skills.

Information technology considered today as the backbone of every modern economy is also suffering from the shortage of able graduates with the right skill.

All the above points towards the fact that the majority of the students not taking mathematics and business subject at higher education level. For those that are skilled move overseas for high pay and international exposure .

Efforts made by the South African government

Historically the South African economy was inward economy producing goods for the local consumption and not allowing goods from other countries on exceptional basis . In 1994 , after the country the community of world nations , it had lowered entry barriers to foreign produced goods therefore allowing competition of local firms to compete with cheaply produced imports from countries such as China . The biggest casualty in the process was the clothing industry which is almost defunct at the moment. The South African attempted to bring  foreign African migrants to sustain the competitiveness of its economy while in the meantime to build a skilled workforce. To this day , the efforts have not borne positive results,

Skill Shortage in the South African economy

South Africa has a skill shortage close to 8500 000 vacancies across all sectors especially in the Information Technology , Financial Services , Management Consultancy and Healthcare. The figures are huge.

In effort to close the skill shortage gap , the South African government has identified scarce or critical skills open to foreign nationals who would like to move to South Africa . Moving to South Africa only provide the foreign worker a world class environment and living conditions but also an enjoyable climate and  outdoor lifestyle.
